Marcell Coetzee included in Sharks 22

Our congratulations go out to loose-forward Marcell Coetzee for being included in The Sharks matchday 22 for their Vodacom Super Rugby match against the Brumbies on Saturday 7 May, 2011. Marcell played for The Sharks Under 19 side in 2010 and has performed with distinction for the Vodacom Cup side - The Sharks XV.

This is not his first forray into the senior squad. In March of this year, he joined up with The Sharks on their Vodacom Super Rugby tour to Australia and New Zealand. He unfortunately did not get to play for The Sharks on tour, but it was the first sign of recognition that big things are expected of this young man.

Marcell is one of the success stories of The Sharks Academy. He is a prime example of what can be achieved if you work hard apply yourself.

After making his debut for the senior side - the 47th Academy student to do so - he played in his second game, also off the bench, against the Bulls.

He has worked extremely hard and as a result earned his opportunities. Coming from a small school (Port Natal in Umbilo), not playing Provincial rugby at high school level and then backing himself to succeed by giving rugby a real go he applied to The Sharks Academy and continually pushed himself.

In the space of just over a year he has represented the Sharks U19, Sharks XV, SA U20 and now The Sharks at Super Rugby level. All these opportunities were well deserved and can be attributed to the positive attitude and obvious talent he has tied into a great work ethic.

Well done Marcell
