The Sharks was one of the first South African rugby unions to embrace professionalism in rugby from a healthcare perspective. This originated with the formation of The Sharks Healthcare Management Committee in 1999 which ensured that the right structures and processes were put in place to ensure that the medical needs of the contracted players were met in the most evidence based and cost efficient manner.
